a hunting we will go...

for the perfect christmas tree, that is!

and we found...sorry to everyone else that went to beck's tree farm...the farmer family got it:)

as was my tradition as a child. we go as a family, find the perfect tree, cut it down, ride the horse drawn "hayride", have some hot chocolate, and watch the tree get the needles shaken out and put through the net "thingy".

i love starting traditions with my family that my parents started when i was young. i hope my children will remember these times when they are grown and have kiddos of their own.

some highlights from our tree hunt 2010:

*annabelle got to sit in the front of the horse hayride
*all three of my kiddos are able to walk on their own (no strollers, etc...finally!)
*we picked a huge tree. we (or should i say I) did not realize how much room it would take up in our dining room.

enjoy some pictures from our tree hunting expedition . i will post house decorating and final tree decoration pictures once we are all set up!

love,
the farmer five (amber)

September 13 ~ September 17

*The beginning of the school year is such a busy time in the first grade. The students are slowly adjusting to being at school all day and learning a new classroom and routines. This is a new blog attempt for me. I will have a link to the weekly spelling words, helpful websites, and our class calendar. As you have seen, each child has a calendar in the back of their take home folder. Please keep the calendar in the folder until I replace it with the next month's calendar.
*Book-in-a-Bag will be starting this week. It has taken awhile to assess all the children and make sure they are reading"just right" books. We will be reading the same book all week. The students will bring the book home each night. PLEASE read the book with your child and return it to school the next day.
*After the first spelling test, I have decided to reduce the amount of words on the test to 8. We will continue to have the Kindergarten high frequency words until the students have mastered them and then we will move onto first grade words. Please continue to read and write the high frequency words with child each night.
*Congratulations to Charlie H! Charlie is our first Classroom Super Citizen. He works hard and is always willing to help a classmate.
*On Friday, September 24, we will be having an Apple Party in honor of John Chapman's (Johnny Appleseed's) birthday. We will taste test several apple products and make homemade applesauce in class. I will be sending home a sign-up sheet if you would like to help by donating an apple item for the party.
*Thank you for checking in on our class. I will be uploading the links A.S.A.P. Thank you again for your patience.
